We are excited to announce that we are introducing a handful of new Faithwalking 101 formats. Our hope is by creating more ways for people to get involved it will make Faithwalking more accessible to those who it was not before.
Faithwalking 101 is the beginning of your spiritual formation process. During 101 participants hear presentations about being fully human and fully alive according to God’s design and how that makes a difference in their world. They also spend time in solitude and share experiences in a small group.
Previously, our open 101 retreats were 3-day events with overnight accommodations. For a long time that was a great solution. We were able to keep costs relatively low making it affordable for most people. However, using this format we were still only able to serve people who could get away for two nights and make it to Houston.
With changes in venue, our 3-day overnight 101 retreats have gone up in cost (still a great value), making them a little bit less accessible than they previously were. We believe the overnight retreat format is still a wonderful way to begin your personal transformation journey because it is immersive, intense, and can encourage authentic community through proximity.
However, we want to give everyone an opportunity to go through Faithwalking that wants to so we have worked to create a few different models of the Faithwalking 101 retreat.
This lead us to create two new open Faithwalking 101 formats. The first being a 2-day retreat with no overnight accommodations available. We do this by partnering with local churches to use their facilities to host the retreat. The 2-day retreats do not cut out any material but simply rearrange it to make it fit into 2 full days (Friday and Saturday). We have held a few retreats this way already and have had gotten wonderful feedback from the participants and the leaders.
The second format we are introducing is the new Faithwalking 101 online series. Faithwalking 101 online will be offered over 8 weekly 120 minute sessions. Holding 101s online over the course of 8 weeks allows us reach people in completely different walks of life than we may have been able to before. We have seen the series format work for 101 before and believe moving online was a natural evolution from there. We are excited to be accepting registrations for our Faithwalking 101 online pilot project right now!
There are now many ways to begin your personal transformation process. You can do one of two new formats, find a local church congregation hosting a 101 retreat or series, or you can do one of the tried and true 3-day overnight retreats. Whatever you choose, we encourage you to take that next step and begin your spiritual formation journey.
